Quick Results:

  • Nia Jax defeated Michin to open things. This followed an opening segment celebrating Tiffany Stratton’s Money In The Bank win. Stratton has eyes on Bayley, but so too does her “friend” Nia Jax.
  • Angel and Berto defeat Apollo Crews and Baron Corbin. Upside is, they got on the show?
  • Naomi defeats Blair Davenport. More of Blair, please.
  • DIY retains their tag titles versus A-Town Down Under. Following the match, Jacob Fatu was hitting everyone that moved. This set up more between the Bloodline and Cody.

Match Of The Night:

DIY versus A-Town Down Under

Superstar Of The Night:

Going to give this to DIY and the Bloodline. Big SmackDown for both, with some crossover.

Noteworthy Moment Of The Night:

As expected, Cody Rhodes is battling Solo Sikoa for the title at SummerSlam. Now, we’ve heard before that Solo was destined for big things. But we’ve also heard that some had concern that Jacob Fatu was going to make Solo look not as ready. Either way, Sikoa has his biggest match yet in Cleveland.

By design, the ending fits the bill. The visual of a laid out Randy Orton with a destroyed and despondent Cody Rhodes watching helpless? As the Bloodline 2.0 stand tall? It’s going to go a long way toward building them into a dominant force-for Roman Reigns to battle shortly.

What I Liked:

WWE is doing anything they can to build tremendous heat up for the new fearsome foursome that is the Bloodline 2.0. Taking out anyone and everyone, including the top of the roster, helps that cause. I do think this all sets up a Roman return at SummerSlam. The question is, how exactly does it get pulled off. But either way I am here for it.

What I Did Not Like:

Just four matches is a mild bummer. I say this knowing we got some really strong non-wrestling, but very important, segments. Which I get. But I would have enjoyed one more match.

After The Final Bell:

As much heat as Solo and company have on them now, could WWE actually pull the trigger and have Cody lose in Cleveland? I mean, it has to be at least possible, I think. A title run would surely help solidify Solo Sikoa as a top man moving forward. As for Tiffany Stratton? She got to celebrate a little on this SmackDown, but she will have her hands full with the blue brand roster moving forward.
