Quick Results:

  • Chelsea Green defeats Michin to retain the US title.
  • Los Garzas defeat Pretty Deadly
  • Shinsuke Nakamura retains against LA Knight due to a DQ caused by interference from the Bloodline.
  • Motor City Machine Guns defeat A-Town Down Under
  • Bayley is the new #1 contender to Tiffany Stratton’s title, defeating Naomi, Bianca Belair and Nia Jax.
  • Jacob Fatu and Tama Tonga defeat Cody Rhodes and Jimmy Uso. Rhodes got taken out by Kevin Owens, leaving Jimmy to get beaten down and take the loss.

Best Match:

Solid choices from open to close. My top two?

The fatal four way match was good. We did not get the “obvious” in Nia Jax. We did get Naomi and Bianca with some possible tension, which could lead to a Jade reveal.

And the main event tag was good too. Even though Reigns got his groove back, the OG Bloodline is still not the same, and the new Bloodline remains dangerous.

Worst Match:

Chelsea and Michin was ok, but nothing special.

Noteworthy Moments:

Jacob Fatu in the backstage area screaming and threatening the faux security as they told him to leave. And then in comes LA Knight, shoving him out of the arena. Why? “He wasn’t using his indoor voice”.

Of course, as you’d expect, Knight would come to regret it. Fatu and Tonga came back in to destroy Knight and cost him the US Championship match.

Holy Sh!@ Moments:

Big opening segment. Heyman calls out Cody. Rhodes comes down, Heyman declares that Roman Reigns has entered the Royal Rumble and wants his title back.

Then KO interrupts and says just when he thought Cody couldn’t do worse, he shook The Rock’s hand on Monday and Heyman’s just now. The pair brawl, setting up Tama Tong and Jacob Fatu to corner Heyman.

He was saved by Jimmy Uso, but that didn’t last long. Uso was nearly destroyed, but Rhodes made his way back to the ring, setting up a tag match for later.

Lowlights:

For me? I know SmackDown is going back to two hours. I had thought maybe it was tonight, but nope this SmackDown was still three hours.

Highlights:

Really strong show overall. Work done to build up things heading to the Royal Rumble, and seeds planted for other feuds down the road perhaps. Like, Carmelo Hayes and Jimmy Uso, anyone?

It was a busier show for me, as I mentioned I was expecting the coming drop back to two hours. Nope, three one more time at least, and there was a lot going on. Six matches in total, with a second Rumble entrant announced and a lot of work done.
