Missing WWE Star Shockingly Wins Championship In Japanese Promotion At New Years Event

While WWE may not have any current plans for the giant known as Omos, it looks like he will be keeping himself busy for a notable Japanese promotion in the weeks ahead.

WWE has a long history of finding and developing gigantic professional wrestlers. It all started with Andre the Giant and Big John Stud and continued with the likes of the Undertaker, Kane, and the Big Show. On the current roster, Braun Strowman and Omos have taken over the mantle of modern-day monsters.

However, while Strowman has been active on Raw and Smackdown — when healthy — the company has chosen not to use the 7-foot-3 Nigerian. But the big man is still under contract and it would be a waste of his talents to let him sit on the sidelines and not try and further develop his wrestling abilities for an eventual return to the main roster.

That is why the company recently leveraged its working relationship with Japanese promotion NOAH and allowed him to compete at their New Year’s event today. Most assumed it would be a one-off appearance to add some extra star power to the card. However, it looks like Omos could be sticking around for a while.

WWE star Omos wins NOAH title on New Year’s Day

On Wednesday, Omos teamed with NOAH veteran Jack Morris in a tag team title match against defending champions Naomichi Marufuji and Takashi Sugiura. And to the surprise of those in attendance, the WWE star and Morris shockingly pulled off a victory and are now the new GHC Tag Team Champions.

Omos has not been seen on WWE television since April. At this point, he is unlikely to make a return any time soon and could be in the early stages of an extended tour in Japan. WWE has been loaning out talent to Japanese promotions like NOAH and All Japan over the last year.

Considering the TV time limitations and how deep the WWE roster is, it is a smart way to develop their talent in a place that is long known for improving the in-ring skills of pro wrestlers.
