WWE President Nick Khan is very confident that the boatload of former AEW talent making the jump to his company this year will be followed by more in the near future.
AEW came into existence in 2019 as a direct competitor to WWE. From the start, CEO Tony Khan and his leadership signed some of the top wrestling talent in the world, including from WWE. However, due to TV time and creative issues, they have not been able to utilize some of their roster and have decided to start letting some of them go this year.
Gifted performers like Penta, Rey Fenix, Ricky Saints, Malakai Black, and Miro have either switched sides or are rumored to soon. In a recent appearance on the Bill Simmons podcast, Nick Khan said that AEW has many talented wrestlers and that when they are free from their contractual obligations, quite a few of them could be heading to his company.
WWE President Nick Khan takes shot at AEW for how they use talent
“In terms of the other wrestling promotional company, they have a lot of talented wrestlers, and we’re happy about that. When, contractually, they are available to talk to and have conversations with, assume a number of them will come over. Nothing but respect to the father [Shad Khan] who finances it and owns the Jaguars and all those other things.”
At the same time, Nick Khan fired indirect shots at AEW, claiming that WWE did not sign people they had no intentions of using on television. “That’s something we won’t do. We won’t sign and bench people. We sign people who we want to use. If another entity signs and benches people now, that’s not something we would do,” said Khan.
With Nick Khan hinting at more arrivals from AEW in the future, it will be interesting to see who will leave the land of All Elite to join the global juggernaut.
