WWE made a round of surprise roster cuts on Friday night, and it includes a former main roster and NXT champion.
The current WWE roster is as strong as it has ever been. No longer is the company relying on aging stars like Goldberg, The Undertaker, or Randy Orton. Over the last few years the roster has shed the excess fat and now has a well-rounded group featuring many performers in their prime. As well as a good mix of greybeards and young prospects.

However, due to the roster being so deep on every level, it can make it difficult for certain talents to break through and get television time. For those not getting minutes on TV there is always the fear of eventually being cut by the company. Well, WWE shed some more dead weight on Friday.
Fightful was the first to break the news that a trio of veteran performers were let go this week. The most notable of which was former United States and NXT tag champion Baron Corbin. While the news may be surprising to some, the man once known as the “Lone Wolf” has had many opportunities in the company and has reinvented himself on a few occasions.
He most recently was part of a tag team on Smackdown with Apollo Crews that seemed to have some potential. Unfortunately, WWE did not see an upside with the team. And has cut ties with the wrestler who has been in the company for over a decade.

WWE also cut Tegan Nox and Indie Hartwell Friday

Along with Baron Corbin being handed his walking papers, Fightful revealed that former NXT mainstays Indi Hartwell and Tegan Nox are no longer with the company. The outlet was unclear if all three have 90 non-compete clauses or if they were outright releases and could find new homes immediately.
Nox has dealt with a lot of tough luck during her run in WWE, including tearing the ACLs in both her knees. However, when she finally was healthy and got a chance on the main roster she had difficulty connecting with fans.
Hartwell is a surprising cut since she has been a part of a developing story with WWE women’s champion Nia Jax, as she and pal Candice LeRae have formed a recent alliance with the titlist. But it looks like the company felt she was not a necessity for the storyline going forward.
All three are sure to get interest from around the industry. Corbin and Nox, in particular, ending up in AEW or TNA sooner or later seems likely.
