I remember hearing plans for this seemingly years ago, so why haven’t we seen a Montez Ford singles push as expected?

Montez Ford is, pound for pound, one of the most gifted and talented performers in WWE today. That is abundantly clear any time he works in the ring. His leaps over the turnbuckle, his frog splashes, and so many more, are just a sight to behold. For quite some time, he has shown he has that “it” factor that lines up with what a singles star needs to have. Only catch is, of course, that Montez Ford is in a tag team with Angelo Dawkins.
We’ve seen him get some moments to shine when Dawkins was hurt. But he has never had a sustained singles push quite like seemed likely. After all, the buzz was intense surrounding him for quite a while. But according to that wrestling super sleuth Dave Meltzer, there is a reason for the lack of a Ford push. Specifically, it is Dawkins. More to the point, allegedly there is concern, from WWE and maybe even Ford, that Dawkins on his own would not have much to do. He would not be in line for the same singles push as Montez Ford. So, if WWE split up the Street Profits, what would Dawkins even do

So why hasn’t he gotten a push
I have several thoughts about this. For starters, go back to the Rockers. They were a fun tag team, they had some mild success, but never became an all time tag team. But Shawn Michaels turned on Marty Janetty and became one of the all time greatest Superstars. Janetty? Well he didn’t do a whole lot of good in wrestling after that. With all due respect to Marty, and to any other partner who is in that same mold…would you really want to keep a team like the Rockers together if it cost us all an HBK career, but it kept Marty Janetty employed?
Of course you wouldn’t. And I am not saying Ford = Michaels. Not at all. But if you think that a Superstar has that kind of talent to be a top singles Superstar, you find a way to make it work. The Street Profits would not be the first tag team that broke up, nor will they be the last.
Jey Uso was one half of one of the all time great tag teams, and he’s done fine on his own too. Otis used to be one half of Heavy Machinery, but that seems like a distant memory now (and Dozer is long gone). Ciampa and Gargano were a team, and then they weren’t, and now they are again, but they may not be for long. Splits happen. Dawkins, if he can’t make it as a singles Superstar? There will be other things for him. He can have a partner search and recruit someone. Maybe send him down to NXT to find his new buddy. But it isn’t a reason to hold Montez Ford back.

And worth noting that the Observer commented that Ford has expressed frustration about his progress. It is also something that, if you watched his show Love and WWE (with his wife Bianca), he was expressing frustration back then too. Given what is going on, I doubt we see Ford winning a Rumble soon. But getting to enjoy success on his own should be well within reach. Maybe 2025 will finally be his year?
