We’ve known it was coming for a bit now. Some in WWE may not be thrilled about it. And that perhaps Vince himself tried to buy the project and squash it. But the new six part Netflix series “Mr. McMahon” is out, and it’s got some interesting bits and pieces to discuss. One worth talking about because it rarely does anymore? Vince McMahon discussed Chris Benoit.

Specifically, Vince was asked about the tragic Benoit double murder-suicide. The heinous act saw Chris Benoit kill his wife (Nancy Sullivan) and the couple’s young son before he killed himself. It was a dark time in WWE, because one evening, RAW honored their memories not knowing what happened. Then when the full picture became clear, you couldn’t utter Benoit’s name again. But now, in the special, McMahon was asked about the despicable Superstar, and he answered.

Yes, he went there

His answers might leave some a bit stunned. When asked if steroids could have been a contributing factor, Vince McMahon said no. Specifically, McMahon-who to my knowledge holds no medical degrees-said that there was no relation between steroid use and violence, specifically what Benoit did. Going deeper into the subject, he was asked if Benoit might have had CTE from his flying head butts and other in-ring moves, and that effects of CTE drove him to do it. This is where it went from bad to worse.

According to McMahon, Benoit’s flying head butt only ever looked like it was hitting someone. The former boss said it never actually did or took damage to the head and brain from it. Again, as I noted before, Vince is not a trained medical professional. But he insisted that Benoit did not have, or act that way, because of CTE. And this is where things get fun, because according to tests performed on Benoit’s brain post-mortem, he had severe CTE in all four cranial lobes as well as significant damage to his brain stem. Almost like all those years before he made it big, head butts many times a week, plus chair shots and everything else, took a toll.

It’s supposed to be a dark look at Mr. McMahon. The Benoit segment is either going to show you Vince is crazy, or make you laugh because surely he cannot be serious.
