Steve Austin disappointed many WWE fans by not making a rumored appearance at WrestleMania 40. This week he explained why he did not finalize plans that “were close” to being done.
WrestleMania 40 was, arguably, the biggest in the storied history of the yearly event. It featured many memorable moments and a main event that will likely go down as the best of all time.

In the weeks leading up to the event, there were many rumors of potential legends showing up to aid Cody Rhodes in his battle against The Bloodline. One of the most notable rumors was about WWE icon “Stone Cold” Steve Austin showing up to renew his legendary rivalry with The Rock. Unfortunately for hopeful fans, the multi-time world champion did not appear at WrestleMania 40.
It has been confirmed in the months since that The Undertaker’s surprise appearance was put together to replace Austin. We haven’t heard much from “The Texas Rattlesnake” on why a deal was not finalized. That is until this week.
Steve Austin is very interested in appearing at WrestleMania 41
“It was close and they certainly reached out to me, and we had conversations. But my wife and I had some things going on that I didn’t need to go to Philly at that time,” Austin said in a chat with wrestling interview Adrian Hernandez. “But I have said, I missed that ‘Mania, and God dang, Philly was a good town for me back in the day and I appreciate those fans.
“[I] couldn’t make it down on that one, but WrestleMania this year’s in Vegas, and I was doing an interview a while back, and I said, ‘Hey man, that’s 400 miles. That’s like right here, where we’re sitting. Right down the road. I’m fixing to drive back to Reno in my buggy.’ But anyway, it’ll be in Vegas. So, I hope to be there this year. If he [Cody Rhodes] needs another hand, I mean, I’ll be there.”
While it is disappointing that Steve Austin could not be a part of an epic Night 2 WrestleMania 40 finale, it is very exciting that he is completely open to the idea of appearing at next year’s event in Las Vegas.
