It’s a bit of a mouthful, but we may have an idea of a couple matches that could serve as the main event for Saturday Night’s Main Event. Before I had cable, I grew up watching primarily Superstars on Saturday mornings, but man did I love the occasion SNME special on NBC. And yes, I am going to abbreviate it most of the rest of the way, because typing that out each time is…a lot.
Potential spoilers ahead
According to Dave Meltzer of the ever reliable Wrestling Observer, the projected top title matches for the event are known. Right now, it is looking like for RAW, Gunther and Damian Priest will lock horns. On the SmackDown side of things, we will see Kevin Owens battle Cody Rhodes. Again, we are still more than a month away from the December 14 return of the Saturday special. Meaning, things can and may change-especially with WarGames between now and then.

In terms of spoilers? These aren’t exactly shocking. Looking at the current television landscape, and those pairings are very obvious to anyone who’s been watching. Priest recently told Gunther that, following Crown Jewel, he was going to be waiting. And we know that Cody Rhodes and Kevin Owens now have a feud building. So, getting those two matches is not really a stunning move at all.

And, if we follow true SNME tradition, we will expect a big match or possibly a big change, and we will get some interference to end things. Especially with an eye on Gunther and Priest? I’d be flabbergasted if Judgement Day don’t stick their noses in Priest’s business. After all, on the October 21st RAW, Carlito got Dom Mysterio a match against a former world champion, and if he wins, he gets a shot at Gunther. What are the odds that this former champion is Damian Priest? And when Priest wins, he asks for the SNME title shot, not too far from his home town?
