When a major Superstar retires, sometimes it goes over better than others. Some talents are so beloved that everyone wants a chance at a farewell. Or, in cases such as John Cena, some talents are so respected that there probably won’t be enough time for all of those who want one last match with the GOAT. And then there is someone like Bill Goldberg.
Goldberg got his Hall of Fame induction. He even enjoyed more time with the championship. But as his last run with WWE wound down, something he wanted, he did not get. That one big farewell match.

According to Goldberg’s comments over the weekend, he will have a farewell retirement match in 2025. Of course, no details are out there just yet, but that has not stopped people from guessing. One big guess comes from Nic Nemeth, the former Dolph Ziggler. As Ziggler, he had tangled with Goldberg in the past, so he knows a thing or two. And following Goldberg’s announcement, we have Nic Nemeth’s comments on the Goldberg retirement news.
And it would seem that Nemeth isn’t hoping for Goldberg to go out a winner, nor is he hoping for a classic match. You can see Nemeth’s comments on social media here:
From a fantasy booking perspective? I think there are plenty of WWE fans who would love a call like the above scenario. The problem is, there’s a near zero chance that Goldberg would agree to come back and have such a match as his retirement no matter the paycheck.
However, if someone truly wanted to do the job on the way out, putting over Gunther in a rapid and distinct fashion could be one way to achieve that goal. The Austrian Superstar is, of course, the odds-on favorite for a final opponent because of his interaction with the Hall of Famer back at Bad Blood.
If not Gunther, another intriguing option would be Bron Breakker. For one thing, Breakker’s family has a history with Goldberg, back from their WCW days. For another? It would be-could be-spear versus spear.
