Kurt Angle Hopes TNA-WWE Working Relationship Leads To WWE Buying Their Tape Library

Kurt Angle, a star for many years in both WWE and TNA, wants WWE to acquire his TNA matches so more fans can see them.

The course of nature in wrestling is that if WWE works with or against another promotion, it usually ends up owning it and its assets. Ask WCW, ECW, or an indie like EVOLVE.

In the past few years, WWE entered a new working relationship with an old rival, TNA. Other than a few talent acquisitions and a top NXT talent being TNA’s champion, WWE has been rather hands-off with the promotion started by the Jarretts, that doesn’t know the definition of ‘quit’.

Should something in that arrangement change, a former star and multi-titleholder in both companies hopes the company that gave him his start gets the tape library of the one he helped put on the map. Moreover, for him, there is self-interest in this outcome.

“When I was wrestling for TNA, I was like, ‘You know what? A lot of WWE fans haven’t seen my work in TNA,” Kurt Angle said on the Podstarz podcast [H/T WrestleZone].

“I wish WWE would have a relationship with TNA, and possibly buy the library so that WWE fans can see my TNA matches. It looks like that’s eventually going to happen. Right now, they’re working together, and I never thought it would happen in a million years,” he added. “But for some reason, it’s happening, and I think a lot of it has to do with TNA has a great company, they really do.”

TNA was at its zenith when Angle arrived in 2006. But today, the company is smaller, more docile, and amenable to collaboration with WWE, if not its influence. “They have a lot of great talents, but it’s not a threat to WWE,” Angle observed.

“Back when we were going head-to-head with WWE, we were doing 2 million viewers a week. Sting was on the roster, Kevin Nash, Hulk Hogan, and Ric Flair. We had a great roster, and we were giving WWE a run for its money,” said Angle.

“Today, they’re still doing really well, but they’re not doing as good as we were doing back then, right? I think that’s the reason why WWE opened their arms and said, ‘Come on in. We’ll collaborate with you,’ and I’m just glad it happened eventually,” he adds.

Angle concluded with, “I hope that WWE buys the TNA library.” When a company typically folds before WWE gets its hands on its footage, Angle might be asking for more than he bargained for.
