Kurt Angle Criticizes WWE For Baron Corbin’s Booking And Recent Release: ‘I Lost To Him For Nothing’

WWE Hall-of-Famer Kurt Angle believes they wasted him doing the honors to Baron Corbin at WrestleMania 35 when they released the veteran wrestler a couple of weeks ago.

Many around the professional wrestling industry were surprised when it was reported that former NXT tag and WWE United States Champion Baron Corbin was among a trio of veterans released by the company. Corbin had been with the company for nearly a decade. So it brought his tenure with the promotion to an unceremonious conclusion.

One name that can be added to the group of confused fans is WWE legend Kurt Angle. The Olympic gold medalist and multi-time WWE Champion has spoken publicly about his disappointment in his final match in the company and how it came against Corbin.

Nevertheless, he was glad that taking a loss at WrestleMania 35 to the “Lone Wolf” could benefit his career. And it is why he is unhappy about the company’s decision to cut Corbin from the roster this month. Because in his mind it further wasted the favor he did for WWE and Corbin in one of the most important moments of his career.

“It was my last match and obviously you’re gonna lose your last match when you retire. After that, he ended up winning King Of The Ring, and then nothing else happened with him,” Angle said in an interview with Wrestle Zone this week. “It’s a little disappointing to know that he beat a legend at WrestleMania. In the legend’s last match, and they didn’t really do much with him after that. For me, it makes me feel like I did that for nothing.

“I thought they were gonna run with the kid. Make him one of the top-tier guys and he was on his way. I do believe they changed his character a couple of times. He was Happy Corbin and then something else,” he recalled. “I don’t know if they found anything that really stuck. And maybe that’s why they let him go because they couldn’t find a character. But, Baron has a great personality. He didn’t need a character, he could be him and he was entertaining as it is.”
