John Cena Responds To WWE Fan Outrage, Doubles Down On Surprising Vince McMahon Comments

After getting heavy criticism for saying he “wholeheartedly” loves former WWE chairman Vince McMahon, John Cena has publicly addressed the backlash and doubled down on his feelings.

In a new interview with Us Weekly, Cena said he respects how fans feel ,  but won’t apologize for his own opinion.

“Everybody’s got their opinion,” he said. “Just like I’ve got an emotional connection to somebody. I don’t care about anybody or how they feel or what they think is acceptable or what’ll make them happy, sad, excited, angry. That’s their right as a human being. I’m not surprised about any of that.”

The McMahon comments originally came during an interview with the New York Times in April, as Cena was in the final days of promoting WrestleMania 41. Despite the WWE founder being sued for sex trafficking in January 2024, Cena spoke openly about the man he credits with giving him his WWE start.

“He put me in a position to win,” Cena said at the time. “And I mean it when I say I love the guy.”

Despite the controversy, the WWE legend is still one of the biggest names in WWE this year. In what is set to be his last full-time run in the industry. He successfully defended the WWE title this past weekend at Backlash. Defeating long-time rival Randy Orton.
