WWE made a couple big splashes on the women’s side of the roster in 2024. Well, more than two, but from the international talent pool, at least two. Giulia got a ton of attention dating back to WrestleMania weekend in Philadelphia. Her debut was long delayed due to injury and some external obligations. But she was not the only big splash. Stephanie Vaquer showed out at AEW’s Forbidden Door and then earned herself a WWE contract. And, even though I believe that chronologically she signed after Giulia, she sort of made her debut faster.

So how has Vaquer been received

Vaquer debuted during the WWE tour of Mexico earlier this year, but it took a bit longer to see her on NXT television. The former CMLL star has been well received thus far, and the general backstage feedback is certainly interesting (if we look at not just WWE.). According to Fightful, there was some concern that Stephanie Vaquer’s exit from her Mexican promotion could cause issues. But now that she’s left and debuted, things appear fine. Sounded like one concern was that WWE would sign her and then not use her. That the company has had her debut and get into a top feud rapidly has gone a long way.

One interesting side effect? Vaquer may have been on WWE radar prior to Forbidden Door. But if that event pushed WWE interest over the top? Tony Khan is said to be considering adding language into contracts to prevent what just happened, from happening again. That is, Vaquer worked Forbidden Door and looked good. But she was not under AEW contract-though there was said to be strong interest. But it perked up WWE interest and the company moved swiftly to get the deal done. And moved swiftly to make Stephanie Vaquer’s WWE debut a reality.

Vaquer has already had quite the impact. I cannot wait to see what she does next.
