Gunther arrived to WWE and was sent to NXT UK. He was quickly put towards the top, holding the title for like 800 days. Then, WWE took another look at him as his physique improved. He spent a little time in NXT before joining the main roster. Since then, he has held gold for most of his WWE run. He was Intercontinental Champion for a record 666 days and is the current World Heavyweight Champion.
One person Gunther has not wrestled, and it will never happen, is Kurt Angle. Due to so many injuries and battling addiction, Angle is done competing inside a ring. Perhaps, a manager type role could happen. At K&S WrestleFest, Angle compared Gunther to Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero. “Oh, he’s a great talent and great technician,” said Angle. “I wouldn’t want to be in front of any of his chops though. I would put it up there with Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit because I think he’s really that good.”
Eddie Guerrero And Chris Benoit Comparisons Do Not Go Over Well
Now, those remarks are going to have people talking. Benoit is blacklisted from pro wrestling after killing his wife and child, before committing suicide. Guerrero beat his addictions to became WWE Champion by toppling Brock Lesnar. Sadly, all the abuse caused to his body, led to him passing away in 2005. Angle wrestled both numerous times, producing some of the best matches ever seen.
Based on the past, Gunther could easily be champion for over a year. He defeated Damian Priest and then defended opposite Randy Orton. Next, he will look to beat the man who ended his Intercontinental Championship reign, Sami Zayn. Those two meet at Bad Blood in less than two weeks. So, was Kurt Angle right in comparing Gunther to Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit?
