Wrestling legend Bill Goldberg is set to have his WWE retirement match in 2025, and the WCW icon gave an update heading into training. And surprisingly, it is more positive than expected from the 57-year-old.
Very few performers in wrestling history have reached the level of popularity that Goldberg did during the 1990s. In an era when professional wrestling was as popular as it has ever been, the former Atlanta Falcons player was able to break through to become one of the biggest names in WCW.

While his first run in WWE did not go as well as both sides had hoped, the wrestling legend surprisingly returned to the company in 2016 and had a memorable feud with fellow wrecking machine Brock Lesnar. And despite being away for over a decade, his popularity remained as strong as ever.
Similar to Mike Tyson — who is the same age — Goldberg is set to return to competition just a few years away from turning 60. And his legion of fans are excited. But as fight fans saw with “Iron” in his scrap with Jake Paul, he very much looked his age. It begs the question, what kind of shape is the former WWE and WCW champion ahead of his planned return bout next year?
Bill Goldberg claims his body is in better shape now than during his last matches for WWE
During a recent of the CarCast, which he co-hosts, Bill Goldberg gave an update on his health as he begins training for his retirement match, and surprisingly he had a lot of positive news.
“I do believe that I’ve set my standards quite high. And at the end of the day, I think people will be pleasantly surprised by the outcome and my performance,” Goldberg said. “My shoulder is probably the worst part of my anatomy at the moment other than my neck and my knee. It’s been widely documented, and I’ve been the one to admit it, that I blew my shoulder apart. As I worked out last night around midnight, I’m able to do things right now with that torn-up shoulder that I haven’t been able to do in ten years.
“This is prior to several matches that I’ve wrestled. My shoulder is in a better position months before I have to perform than it was days before leading up to matches in the past. That is a huge change,” he admitted. “If I think about that as a positive attribute to my training, I’m way ahead of the curve. I can’t wait. Couldn’t lift my arm the last time I got in the ring. I don’t think about my shoulder anymore, and that’s unbelievable.”
Mick Foley tried to come back for one last match this year. But quickly realized his concussion history would not make that possible. Ric Flair allegedly had multiple heart attacks during his retirement match in 2023. So, for Goldberg to be feeling this positive about his training is reason for his legion of fans to be excited.
