Despite Deep Resentment Drew McIntyre Admits His CM Punk Feud Delivered ‘Magic’ For WWE Fans

After the two faced off in one of the greatest storylines in recent WWE history in 2024, Drew McIntyre didn’t shy away from speaking honestly about his feud with CM Punk during a recent chat with Alex McCarthy of the DailyMail. The Scottish Warrior described how his genuinely bitter rivalry with Punk translated to television magic.

“I didn’t really anticipate anything in the beginning, I was dealing with my personal feelings towards him, understanding why he was brought in. It’s a numbers thing. He sells a lot of T-shirts.”

The feud came to a head at the Bad Blood pay-per-view in Atlanta, where they faced off in a brutal Hell in a Cell match. As a result, the Scottish Psycho suffered a head injury and got 16 staples, but “It’s better than any therapy in the world. I don’t need a therapist to talk to, I’ve got a microphone every week,” he said.

“And during the Punk stuff, I was sounding out a lot of feelings when he came back eventually and started saying his piece.”

While he harbored much resentment towards the man, McIntyre had to agree that the tension between him and CM Punk was very entertaining when translating to the television show.

“As much as we have certain feelings towards each other, we both are aware we’ve got certain magic with each other. The more people have a genuine disdain for each other, people can truly feel it. And if you’re actually good at your job, like we are, it does create magic.”

Drew McIntyre admits being very loud on social media, where he often harshly criticized Punk. But the fellow WWE great took the digital barbs in stride.

“I went overboard. And the company could have asked me to pull back if they wanted me to, and I’d have said, ‘No, it’s my social.’ But I went at him and went at him. … Not that I care, but he didn’t [back down]. He ate it like a man and then came back with what he had to say. So I’ll give him that.”
