Vince McMahon’s name has been completely erased from WWE. Yet, he has been subtly mentioned on TV numerous times since his exit. However, Drew McIntyre was seconds away from harkening back to one of his infamous moments last year.
In a recent interview with “Gorilla Position: Beyond the Ring”, McIntyre recalled a promo exchange with CM Punk during the heights of their heated feud last year. He planned to use the reference of McMahon firing Punk on his wedding day back in 2014 to take a shot at him. However, he stopped at the last minute. McIntyre realised that he had to be professional.
“It crossed my mind,” he said. “The conversation in my head of — do I do it? Do I say the same person who fired you on your wedding day? Which did cross my mind. But again, somebody’s got to be the professional out there. And in Chicago, he’s technically the good guy, even though he’s clearly the bad guy and I’m saying the truth non-stop.”
Drew McIntyre and CM Punk had one of the captivating and intense feuds of 2024. It began with McIntyre injuring Punk in the Royal Rumble match. Following that, Punk cost him his World Championship at WrestleMania 40. This led to various altercations between the duo for the next few months. Right after the Second City Saint was medically cleared, he and McIntyre faced each other in three spectacular bouts.
The rivalry came to an end at the 2024 Bad Blood PLE. On that night, Punk defeated McIntyre in one of the most gruesome Hell in a Cell matches. As for Vince McMahon, he resigned from WWE’s parent company, TKO, after Janel Grant’s accusations against him for sex trafficking and sexual misconduct became public.
Following that, McMahon’s references were removed from their official site, and he was no longer mentioned on television. With McMahon no longer a part of the company he created, he is currently building a new company, ’14th & I’, while still under federal investigation for the lawsuit filed by Janel Grant.
