During a recent interview, reigning WWE Champion Cody Rhodes looked to end a popular debate among wrestling fans. And that is whether he was actually ever the leader of the legendary NJPW faction the Bullet Club.
There have been many iconic factions in professional wrestling. In the 1980s there was the Von Erichs, the Freebirds, and the Four Horseman. The 1990s featured the legendary NWO and D-Generation X. They would eventually be followed by groups like Legacy and the Wyatt Family.

However, there has been one faction that didn’t have the bright spotlight of a major American wrestling company but still grew to become one of the most popular of all time. And that is NJPW’s Bullet Club. The group co-founded by WWE star Finn Balor has been similar to the NWO in featuring many different members and was cutting edge in how cool it was.
One former member who used it to catapult them into new levels of fame was current WWE Champion Cody Rhodes. He was a part of the faction late in the 2010s and even made a run at leadership for the group. That has since created a debate about if he ever really had control of BC after feuding with Kenny Omega over it.
Well, this week Rhodes looked to end the discourse once and for all.
Cody Rhodes quiets the doubters, says he indeed was Bullet Club leader for a short time
During a recent appearance on the “Flagrant” podcast, Cody Rhodes spoke in-depth about Bullet Club and it’s popularity. He even revealed an interesting story about how a representative from the popular clothing store Hot Topic came to a recent WrestleMania and asked for “the Bullet Club guys.” Not realizing they weren’t part of the WWE roster.
Towards the end of the conversation he also weighed in on the popular debate on his BC leadership and gave a definitive answer.
“I was the leader for a short period of time,” Rhodes said. “There’s a whole online argument about was I ever a Bullet Club leader. It is official. I did lead it. I won against Kenny to get leadership of the Bullet Club for a brief time.”
Rhodes’ run as BC leader was short lived. Mainly because not long after his victory over Kenny Omega he would depart and begin the early steps to help found All Elite Wrestling. Alongside NJPW veterans Omega, the Young Bucks, and Adam Page.
