A new video posted by WWE suggests Cody Rhodes is going to bring back a legendary belt for this weekend’s Saturday Night’s Main Event extravaganza.
We are just a few days away from the return of a classic piece of 1980s wrestling nostalgia. When long-time fans hear the phrase Saturday Night’s Main Event, they recall memories of watching WWE (then WWF) in prime time as a child. It brings back memories of the blue steel cage and the “Mega Powers” exploding.
To close out 2024, the company is bringing back the unique brand for a prime-time event on NBC. Smartly, WWE has looked to mine the nostalgia of 1980s wrestling in the promotion for Saturday’s show. There are also rumors of WWE legends making surprise appearances and former color commentator Jesse Ventura is set to return to give SNME a sound fans remember from their youth.
However, on Wednesday, WWE’s social accounts posted a video featuring Paul “Triple H‘ Levesque and WWE Champion Cody Rhodes that has some wondering about a legendary belt returning on Saturday as well.
Cody Rhodes and Triple H hint at return of ‘winged eagle’ belt at Saturday Night’s Main Event
In the video, Levesque explains to Rhodes the goal of capturing that notalgic vibe for this weekend’s event. He then walked him over to a gift he had in a huge black case. Before leaving, he made it clear, that what was inside would only be used “for one night only.”
When Rhodes opens the case a gold glow illuminates from the case, similar to the case in the iconic film Pulp Fiction. The WWE champ smiles and that is all fans get to see. The best guess is that it is the legendary “winged eagle” belt in the case.
The WWE belt Hulk Hogan made popular is something Cody Rhodes has pushed to bring back ever since he returned to WWE. Chances are it will never return permanently. However, bringing it back for Saturday Night’s Main Event seems like the perfect way to make use of the beloved belt style. Rhodes faces Kevin Owens in the main event of SNME.
