While he’s not retiring just yet, you know he’s not getting any younger. As such, sometimes a veteran performer reflects. Such was the case for CM Punk recently. The Superstar, who is approaching the first anniversary of his return to WWE, was a recent guest on a podcast. On the show, one question was posed to Punk. What do you consider your top three matches in WWE?.
Simple question, right
For some, maybe. But not always true for everyone. And yet, Punk had some exceptionally good answers, considering how many exceptional matches he’s been in. Right off the bat, none of these include the recent Hell In A Cell match, which could find it’s way on his list. That effort might be a match of the year candidate. So what were Punk’s top three matches in WWE?
His first top match? Against John Cena, in 2013, just ahead of WrestleMania. Not a PLE match, this one was on RAW. How cool is that? After all of his matches on big shows, his personal top match in WWE happened on a RAW 11 years ago. And, naturally, against the greatest of all time in John Cena.
For his second top match in WWE? WrestleMania 29, against none other than The Undertaker. Yes, we know he lost that one-The Streak lived on for a bit more after that one. But the build, and the match, are deserving of a top spot.
Rounding out his top three matches? Another from 2013, this time his battle at SummerSlam against the Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar. And, while I never sit around thinking of any of these three regularly (who does?), hearing Punk single them out takes you on a trip down memory lane. And, for CM Punk, I get it. 2013 might have been among his best in WWE (or any other ring).
