Although his football career helped put him on the radar, there is no dispute that Bill Goldberg was a bigger superstar in the ring than he was on the gridiron. That said, his run in WCW, as monumental as it was, wasn’t part of his game plan until injury forced him to hang up the helmet.
Wrestling was, in fact, his plan B and as apples don’t fall that far from the tree, Goldberg’s son Gage is on a similar wavelength. The youngster who currently plays college ball says that’s his true passion but leaves the door open a crack for wrestling if need be.
He had a Zoom interview with the godfather of wrestling magazines Bill Apter on Sportskeeda’s “Wrestle Binge” and addressed a potential future between the ropes.
Bill Goldberg’s son open to an eventual move to professional wrestling
“I mean, yes and no, for sure, because wrestling would be cool. Being amped up and everything, having all the
adrenaline,” Gage added. Apter pointed out there were football players who took up wrestling in the off-season, and the conversation turned to things wrestling and football have in common.
“Also wrestling is great for football too. Because of like, tackling and everything. Taking blows,” Gage said. One
prominent thing the two sports have in common is The Spear, the move made famous by Gage’s father. It’s perfect to pull off on the field, which Gage said he had done a few times in high school. However, he confessed he hasn’t had the opportunity to flatten any opposing players yet in Colorado where he attends school.
Asked as well if he gets “GOLD-BERG!” chants when he walks on the field, he answered no with a laugh. He may
hear those chants one day if he has to go with Plan B. He may also do a spear, but Gage Goldberg would be in good company.
