Following a successful SummerSlam card to kick off August, WWE head of creative, Triple H, made a bold claim about what is still to come in the second of the 2024 WWE schedule.
“This year is going to close out big. I’m excited for all of it. The future is bright. This is the most amazing roster I think I’ve seen. Most talented, most dedicated,” he said in the post-event press conference. “Everybody’s having a blast right now, including me, which is the best part of it, and we’re all just charging ahead. So if what I believe to be coming is true, you ain’t seen nothing yet.”
With that in mind, let’s speculate on seven big matches and moments that could go down in WWE during the second half of 2024.
Brock Lesnar vs. Gunther World Heavyweight Title Match
There were rumblings about a potential Brock Lesnar vs. Gunther match at Wrestlemania 40. However, the WWE legend being referenced in the ongoing Vince McMahon sexual assault lawsuit led the company to distance it from “The Beast.” However, later this year things could certainly change, and there may be no better way to take Gunther’s title reign to new heights than a match with Lesnar. It would be the most must-see clash in the company before 2024 comes to a close.

Bloodline Civil War At War Games
Triple H and the creative team have been dropping the breadcrumbs of a Bloodline implosion for months. While recent reports suggested a Roman Reigns vs. Solo Sikoa singles match won’t come until Wrestlemania 41, it doesn’t mean they won’t fight before then. War Game in November would be the perfect setting for a Bloodline Civil War match and if it doesn’t happen it would be one of the biggest shockers of 2024.
Damian Priest vs. Finn Balor First Blood Match
Damian Priest and Finn Balor are being lined up for one of the top feuds of the fall. A simple singles match will not bring this bitter feud of former close friends to an end. They will certainly have a gimmick match or two before it’s over. And October’s Bad Blood premium live event would be a perfect time to take things up a notch, and do the company’s first “First Blood match” since 2008.

Lucha Bros Make WWE Debut
There have been major rumors in recent weeks that the Lucha Bros., Rey Fenix, and Penta El Zero Miedo, are not just leaving AEW but are WWE-bound when their contracts expire this summer. They are, arguably, the best tag team in the world not in WWE and their arrival will be a huge addition to the division. Look for a big build and notable impact when they make their promotional debut in September or October.

Terence Crawford Has Tag Match Versus Logan Paul
Terence Crawford has made some surprise appearances on WWE TV in the lead-up to his recent fight against Israil Madrimov. With that bout in the rearview, it would not be surprising if Crawford entered the wrestling ring in between fights. A match where he teams up with LA Knight versus Logan Paul and a pal could be a lot of fun. Especially since Paul has experience facing legendary boxers and fought Floyd Mayweather several years ago.

CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre Hell In The Cell Match
The CM Punk vs. Drew McIntyre feud is far from over and will likely have a violent conclusion. That is why there is no better setting for such a finale than “Hell in a Cell.” There have already been rumors it could headline Bad Blood in October and that would make a lot of sense. It is one of the best feuds on either Raw or Smackdown right now and this type of match feels like a fitting end to their rivalry.
WWE Forms Long-Term Partnership With Major Japanese Promotion
WWE has surprised the industry with its unexpected working relationship with TNA. Earlier this year reports claimed they are open to more relationships and the company has been doing a lot of work in Japan over the last year. They let Shinsuke Nakamura face Great Muta in his farewell match in NOAH in 2023. And they have allowed talent to compete in All Japan Pro Wrestling. It just seems like a matter of time before some notable Japanese stars begin to show up on WWE television as a part of a new Japanese partnership.
