A pair of reports suggest that Sting inducting long-time best friend Lex Luger into the WWE Hall of Fame is unlikely.
We are just a few weeks away from the massive two-night WWE extravaganza known as WrestleMania. However, in the lead-up to ‘Mania and after there are various other events. Including Smackdown and NXT Stand and Deliver. However, the most popular is probably the yearly WWE Hall of Fame ceremony.
This year’s class is another rock-solid group headlined by Chief Creative Officer and company legend Paul “Triple H” Levesque. However, WCW great Lex Luger getting his flowers this year is an induction long-time fans are looking forward to. Especially since the one-time WCW champion has publicly stated he wants his dear friend and fellow HOFer Sting to induct him.
Unfortunately, some interesting reports suggest Sting’s most recent wrestling home, AEW, may not allow him to take part.
Dave Meltzer makes strong case for AEW blocking Sting from appearing at 2025 WWE Hall of Fame
This week, Fightful Select reported that Sting has been telling people close to him he does not think AEW will allow him to be on a WWE-televised event. He had a deal with the company similar to the Legends deal many old-timers have with WWE. He competed in his retirement match with the promotion last year. And was a key part of their content in recent years.
Added to the momentum that the wrestling legend will be blocked by AEW was Dave Meltzer. The Wrestling Observer founder made a strong case this week for why AEW should not do WWE a favor. Even if it hurts Luger.
“If Lex Luger went into the Hall of Fame in Waterloo, Iowa then I would have absolutely no problem,” Meltzer began by saying [h/t Wrestle Talk]. “Absolutely none. When it’s the WWE Hall of Fame on a WWE broadcast, you can look at it like (doing Luger a favor), but that’s the weakness they’re counting on.
“How many guys from WWE under contract were allowed to do Sting’s retirement show? Zero. So why should you reciprocate? If Lex Luger wasn’t allowed to do Sting’s show? That’s my argument,” he added. “I do not see any reason why Tony should be cooperative. Other than if it’s a business deal and they make a business deal.
“If they wanna go in there and make a business deal and say, you know, ‘We’ll plug All In during our show’, maybe I’d consider it at that point.”
