Gunther has been a dominant force on WWE Raw ever since he came to the main roster. Over the last three years, he has had a record-setting Intercontinental Championship reign and is a two-time World Heavyweight Champion on the flagship program.
With WWE SummerSlam 2025 on the horizon, it is expected that Gunther will be featured in a prominent matchup. With that in mind, we speculate on five potential opponents for the champ at the biggest event of the Summer.
CM Punk
CM Punk has had eyes on the World Heavyweight Championship ever since he returned to WWE after a decade. “The Best in the World” was recently involved in a physical altercation with Gunther, who is the current title holder on RAW. WWE might have planted early seeds for this rivalry heading into WWE SummerSlam, culminating in a huge World title match between Punk and Gunther.

Roman Reigns
Gunther has faced every major, formidable opponent on the active WWE roster. However, one huge omission from that list is The OTC, Roman Reigns. He himself has not held a World title for more than a year. In hopes of regaining his throne, Reigns could return on the road to SummerSlam and begin a program with Gunther. This could lead to a first-ever showdown between “The Tribal Chief” and “The Ring General” at a major PLE.

Jey Uso
The rivalry between Jey Uso and Gunther has been a prominent program on RAW since the start of 2025. Uso won his first World title from him at WrestleMania 41, but the champ bounced back by defeating him on RAW on June 9th to regain the title. With major recent wins over each other, WWE SummerSlam could be used to further one of the most notable feuds of 2025.
Bron Breakker
Bron Breakker has all the potential to become a World Champion in WWE. Under Seth Rollins’ and Paul Heyman’s guidance, he could earn that opportunity at WWE SummerSlam. While Rollins can choose to target the Undisputed WWE title, he could send the Wolf Dog to capture the other World title. This could set up a huge blockbuster between two of the most dominant and powerful in-ring athletes at a major WWE PLE.
