In a surprise moment to close out Friday’s TNA Emergence pay-per-view event, a WWE Hall-of-Famer unexpectedly appeared to confront the company’s current world champion.
Things have gotten very interesting in this burgeoning relationship between the No. 1 promotion in pro wrestling and long-time competitor TNA Wrestling. It all started in June when Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace arrived in NXT to challenge women’s champ Roxanne Perez. It has continued through the summer and will now include Joe Hendry facing Ethan Page for his belt at No Mercy.

However, there has been some crossover of NXT talent to TNA as well. And it has helped the promotion gain a lot of steam in recent months. Furthermore, the return of promotional greats like the Hardy Boyz, and the signing of former two-time WWE Champion Dolph Ziggler has helped to bring the company back to levels of relevancy it hasn’t seen in a long time.
However, that new partnership took a surprising turn yesterday following the main event of TNA Emergence.
JBL makes shocking appearance at TNA Wrestling event
In the headliner of last night’s card, Nic Nemeth, formerly known as Dolph Ziggler, defended his title against former champion Josh Alexander. After a hard-fought battle, the former WWE star was able to retain his belt. However, after the match a former co-worker visited him.
To the surprise of the TNA fans in attendance, John Bradshaw Layfield, AKA JBL, showed up to confront Nemeth in the ring. The two did not come to blows, but JBL whispered something in the champion’s ear and then walked off. The surprise moment can be viewed above.
The one-time WWE Champion has not wrestled for a major company in 15 years. So a return to the ring would be unexpected, but pro wrestling is all about unexpected events. This is the second surprise appearance he has made in recent weeks. He also popped up at a Game Changer Wrestling event last week.
