Brock Lesnar defeating Goldberg at WrestleMania possibly signifies the end of Goldberg’s return. However, there has been some talk that neither Goldberg nor WWE have ruled out another match in the future, so who’s or what’s next for him?
Possible Opponent: Roman Reigns
If WWE wants to boost Goldberg’s popularity again, they should pit him against some of the more hated WWE superstars. When Goldberg made his return, he was met with a lot of cheers. People were sick of Brock Lesnar and therefore welcomed the return of the man who could beat him. I’m still sick of Brock Lesnar, so when I heard boo’s for Goldberg recently, it felt like the twilight zone. I understand that people are sick of part-timers, but isn’t Brock Lesnar exactly the same?
A match between Roman Reigns and Goldberg would put the fans right behind Goldberg again. Though it could be another opportunity for the WWE to showcase Super Reigns. Still, if they would let Goldberg win, it might be amusing for fans.
Possible Opponent: AJ Styles
There are few superstars that can get a good match out of everyone and AJ Styles certainly has a unique talent. If Goldberg needs an opponent, AJ Styles could be a good choice. Styles is not stuck in a fixed story line at the moment, so he could be taken on a legend like Goldberg.
Unfortunately, AJ Styles is not an opponent that will make Goldberg popular with the fans again. Styles is one of those superstars that is always loved, no matter how far he takes it as a heel. His ability in the ring truly surpasses the character he plays, so maybe Styles is not next for Goldberg…
What’s In the Cards For Goldberg?
He gave a passionate farewell speech on this week’s episode of RAW, so it is unlikely he will be getting an opponent in the nearby future. Still, I don’t believe it is the end for Goldberg, even though he is saying goodbye to WWE wrestling for now.
The return of Goldberg was only temporary and I was aware of that from the beginning. However, I was surprised how quickly the crowd turned on him and put themselves behind Lesnar again. In my opinion, Lesnar is a part-timer who only cares about his paycheck. Goldberg cares about his fans and appreciates everything the fans have done for him, despite being a part-timer.
In recent years, I’ve become annoyed at a select few of WWE Superstars that don’t seem to give a damn about the fans that put them there in the first place. Brock Lesnar is certainly a part of that select number of superstars.
I have noticed lately that Lesnar actively plays the camera and comes out with a bit more of a smile. He even interacted with a fan at WrestleMania, so I believed hell was freezing over! I may be a little biased, but Lesnar will have to do a lot before I’m convinced he earned his current spot, especially after he got suspended from the UFC after the use of illegal performance enhancers.
Still, it does not change the fact that Goldberg is saying goodbye to the WWE again. So, all I have left to say is thank you Goldberg, and thank you for making us believe in heroes once again.
