The Rock agreed to face Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 39, but it obviously did not happen. So what actually occurred and is he still open to the match?
The Rock On Failed Roman Reigns Match For WrestleMania 39
Roman Reigns is the Tribal Chief and has been on a run nobody has seen in decades. For over three years, he has remained champion and only suffered only pinfall loss.
WrestleMania 39 came and went, with Reigns walking out as champion. Although, Cody Rhodes was not the original plan.
As has been rumored, The Rock against Reigns was to close the huge weekend. During a conversation on the Pat McAfee show, The Rock went into details about what went wrong.
“The Rock vs Roman Reigns at WrestleMania, it was locked. We were doing it,” said The Rock. “No, we were doing it. Let me just tell you.”
“In the beginning of 2022, Nick Khan, who I’ve known for years, he’s the man, he was very instrumental in bringing me and Vince together in LA. This was the beginning of 2022, and we broke out Teremana and toasted life, and toasted the business we love.”
“About an hour later we talked about me headlining WrestleMania with Roman Reigns at SoFi, and we shook hands and we hugged right there and we left the table and said ‘let’s do this.’”
“So, then we had a year to really think about this. The thought was ‘let’s not do something good, let’s not do something great, let’s do something unprecedented.’ The idea was ‘what can we do for the fans that has never been done before.’”
The Rock stated he was open to the match, but the timing did not work. He wanted the proposed contest to have meaning and be a memorable encounter.
So, will WWE finally be able to book Rock vs. Reigns for WrestleMania 40?
