Smackdown Live Adds Their Final Survivor Series Team Member!

The build to Survivor Series has been pretty good. There have been shocking title changes and the red and blue brands have declared full-on WAR with each other. Part of the build has been the creation of Raw’s and Smackdown’s Survivor Series teams. For Raw, GM and captain Kurt Angle put together a murderer’s row of up and comers: Braun Strowman, Finn Balor, Samoa Joe, and his ‘son’ Jason Jordon.

Smackdown’s captain, Shane McMahon used matches to build his team:

After Randy Orton defeated Sami Zayn to become SmackDown’s first member, Shinsuke Nakamura vanquished Kevin Owens, and Bobby Roode outlasted Dolph Ziggler in a 2-out-of-3-Falls Match to win their way onto the squad as well.

But there was still one more spot to fill. At first, people thought it would go to either Rusev or AJ Styles. That fell flat when Rusev lost his qualifying match and AJ won the WWE title from Jinder Mahal. That left Shane McMahon with a decision. He swung for the fences and hit big.Smackdown Live just became the favorite to win this. 

WOW! Originally John Cena was slated to officiate the Lesnar-Mahal match. But after Mahal lost his title, he seems to be off the card for good. That left Cena open to joining the team.

What Does This Mean?

John Cena coming back to the ring is big. Even though he’s only been out for a few months, a lot of people suspected he wouldn’t be back in the ring until Wrestlemania. Cena returning could be a ploy to sell tickets. But it could also be to set-up his eventual feuds for the Royal Rumble and Wrestlemania.

The Survivor Series has a lot of story-lines going into it. The champion vs champion matches each has their own special feel to them. The Miz and Baron Corbin have made it intensely personal. The tag-team match is up in the air due to shenanigans from the New Day and possible injury of one of the Usos. The Women’s Survivor Series match as well offers a feuding Smackdown Squad vs. an unfinished Raw team captained by noted crazy person Alicia Fox. The entirety of the card is stacked with matches that fans will care about.
