Major Update On Matt And Jeff Hardy’s TNA Wrestling Status Will Disappoint Wrestling Fans Hoping For WWE Return

Many long-time WWE fans are hoping Matt and Jeff Hardy make one last run in the company that made them legends. This week the elder brother of the Hardy Boyz revealed if a return could be possible in 2025.

It has been well-documented that WWE founder and long-time boss Vince McMahon was not a huge fan of tag team wrestling. It often took undeniable talent for him to focus a good amount of TV time on tag teams. That was the case in the 1980s when Demolition, the Hart Foundation, the British Bulldogs, and the Rockers could be seen on TV weekly.

However, over a decade passed before fans saw a tag team resurgence. But in the late 1990s, the Hady Boyz, the Dudley Boyz, and Edge & Christian made tag wrestling an undeniable piece of content he needed on WWE television. It is why all six men still live in the hearts and minds of older WWE fans.

After an underwhelming run in AEW, Matt and Jeff Hardy became free agents again earlier this year. However, the brothers chose to take their talents to TNA Wrestling and have made an impact (pun intended) during their second stint with the promotion. Even becoming their tag team champions recently.

But rumors claimed they never signed an official contract and a potential return to WWE always seemed possible. On Wednesday, the duo gave a major update, and a return in 2025 isn’t happening.

“We really believe in the direction that TNA is going. They’ve got a lot of big plans for 2025. They’ve taken great care of us,” Matt Hardy told Sports Illustrated. “They have put myself and Jeff in positions to succeed, which we’re very grateful for. We love the crew there, from the boys and the girls in the locker room to the management. Everyone and everything is really clicking right now. The brand is growing again. I see a lot of upward mobility for TNA over the course of the next year. Jeff and I will be part of that for the next year.”

“We worked on a handshake deal all the way through to winning the titles and having the titles for a month. So it’s been a great relationship with trust between us and TNA management. Everything they’ve said they were going to do, they followed through wit,” he revealed. “Everything we said we were going to do, we followed through with. It just feels right. Jeff was very adamant about it. Jeff is really enjoying this run in TNA. He’s feeling confident.”

Jeff Hardy is 47 years old, and his brother Matt is 50. The pair don’t have many more matches on their bump card. Another year is a chance for an injury that eventually forces one or both of them to retire. It isn’t out of the question that the pair won’t return to WWE until they are eventually inducted into the Hall of Fame.

However, with WWE and TNA having a working relationship it is possible that they are allowed to have short returns that could benefit both sides at some point in 2025.
