JR’s new role has been announced. He will be joining NXT commentator Nigel McGuiness to call the WWE’s new UK-based television show!

I’m excited to announce that I will join the talented  Nigel McGuinness to broadcast the recently taped, WWE matches from Norwich, England and these bouts will air on the WWE Network soon. Happy for this opportunity to call bouts involing new wrestlers, for me, and a new broadcast partner which freshens up all facets of the process.

What’s interested is that Jim Ross is already familiar with some UK wrestlers and audiences. He previously called PPVs for WCPW.

Jim Ross returned to WWE  to call what appeared to be the Undertaker’s retirement match at Wrestlemania 33.

Jim Ross was the voice of WWE during The Undertaker’s prime, so it only made sense that he would be the one to call the Deadman’s last bout at Wrestlemania.

What seemed like a one-off special appearance is turning out to be much more.

Ross has signed a multi-year contract with WWE and is expected to be calling more matches in the future.

“It has a specific number of dates that I’m obligated to work, which I think is good for me,” Ross said. “So look at it this way: I got my jersey back. I got brought back to my home team, and my opportunities back in WWE, I’m sure, will be multi-fold.

“They’ve got a lot of things that I can contribute (to), and I’ve been so blessed in the business that I’ve done so many different things,” Ross continued. “I’ve been an administrator and a syndicator, a marketing rep, a VP of broadcasting, a head of talent relations. But the fun part is what I did tonight.

“I hope to have more ‘fun part’ assignments in the future, but I’ve got my jersey back,” he reiterated. “So if the team needs me to play, to work more than they anticipated because they need it, I’m in.”

It appears Good Ol’JR will be working select dates and calling marquee match-ups, presumably at WWE’s major pay-per-views.

We’re very glad Ross is back. He’s a trusted voice who has always added an air of legitimacy to wrestling that few other modern commentators can.

Even though he left WWE in 2013 on awkward terms, it seems they have mended relations.

JR wasn’t the only star to make a surprise comeback this weekend. The Hardy Boyz were a surprise entrant in the Raw Tag title match, winning the belts in a classic tag-team ladder match.

As WWE expands and tries to reach new audiences, it is important that they still pay homage to the past.
