This headline is direct and probably not a stunner, but a former WWE champion is likely to join AEW, once they can.
That isn’t at all confusing, right?
Of course not.
Right off the bat, I need to say this. This particular likely signing is not expected to happen at Full Gear on November 18th.
Because legally, it can’t.
That last little caveat probably makes it clear. Or, at least, clearer.
Former WWE Champion Likely To Join AEW
It’s funny. Tony Khan sent fans into a frenzy by teasing a massive signing to be revealed at the start of the company’s November PPV.
I say it’s funny because many fans on social media immediately ran down the list of recently released, now-former WWE Superstars.
Mustafa Ali Release Upset Many In WWE
Back in September, right after TKO became official following the sale of WWE, the company cut loose a number of Superstars, some more prominent than others.
Just as soon as that happened, speculation turned to who-if anyone-would AEW want.
Of those released, only a few are actually able to sign (those with NXT contracts, as the non-compete is only 30 days).
The bigger names, like Matt Riddle, have their 90 day non-competes expire just before Christmas.
Well, according to the Wrestling Observer, at least one of those released talents is expected to be a lock to join there shortly after he is able to do so.
That would be former champion Nick Nemeth, better known as Dolph Ziggler.
On one hand, some fans won’t like that he’s on the older side, but the reality is, he’s got plenty of gas left in the tank and he’s a quality wrestler.
Will he move the needle? That remains to be seen.
Considering WWE didn’t make much use of him in recent months before his release, maybe not.
Or, perhaps his former home was really sour on him and Nemeth will come to AEW and burn things down in the best way possible.
With a month left in his non-compete, we should find out soon enough if Ziggler is making the leap.
