Dream Matches We Need To See in WWE!

WWE recently teased the hell out of a future match between AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura. That’s an obvious dream match, so it got us thinking about some other great matches I’d like to see in WWE. Here are our top 8!

[tps_title] Charlotte vs. Asuka[/tps_title]

Unless Asuka never graduates from NXT for whatever reason, or unless she and Charlotte are perpetually kept on separate brands, it seems inevitable that this match will happen. And just think about how fantastic it will be: the longest-reigning modern WWE champion of any kind vs. the progeny of the Nature Boy? Two of the most naturally gifted women wrestlers WWE has seen in decades? Gallant robes galore? Shut up and take my money!

[tps_title]Undertaker vs. Sting[/tps_title]

When people say “dream match” this is what they’re talking about. The two best to ever do it. No wrestlers worked at a higher level for longer than Taker and the Icon. Unfortunately due to the Monday Night Wars, contracts, and just bad timing we never got this match. Sting is officially retired and Undertaker is rumored to be, so we will only get this match in our imaginations and on WWE2K.

[tps_title]Brock Lesnar vs. Minoru Suzuki[/tps_title]

Lesnar needs no introduction, but Minoru Suzuki is one of the best ever to cross-over between MMA and pro-wrestling. He is a submission master who revolutionized the “shoot-style” in Japan. To say Lesnar and Suzuki would blur the lines between wrestling and MMA would be an understatement. Both men were at different times considered the baddest and most feared fighters on the planet. Lesnar is in advanced age and probably doesn’t have the wind to have a long and good match with Suzuki. Minoru is unfortunately unknown to US audiences. The match will forever be relegated to Japanese wrestling video game Fire Pro (pictured above).

Suzuki wrestled AJ Styles in 2014 in the Wrestling Observer’s Match of the Year. Here are a few highlights from it:

[tps_title]Neville vs. Pete Dunne[/tps_title]

If you’re perplexed as to what these two are doing on this list, the answer is simple: We love cruiserweight wrestling and Neville and Pete Dunne are the cream of the crop.

Neville’s career has undergone a complete revival since he returned from injury; he’s the current and longest-reigning WWE Cruiserweight Champion and one of the best villains on the roster. Dunne, meanwhile, is the current WWE United Kingdom Champion and the current Progress Wrestling World Champion.

The only downside to this feud is that one of them would have to turn face for it to happen, and they’re both such phenomenal baddies that we don’t want either of them to turn face. Ever.

[tps_title] DX vs. the Young Bucks[/tps_title]

D-generation X Shawn Michaels and Triple H revolutionized what it meant to rebel against authority. They channeled a whole generation’s angst and distaste for authority into one of the most fun and original tag teams in wrestling history. Their modern day heirs are the Young Bucks. Nick and Matt Jackson are a 1 part Rockers, 2 parts DX, 1 part Punk, the rock genre, not the wrestler. They do what they want, they flout convention, and the fans LOVE them for it. Sound familiar?

But HBK is retired, Triple H only wrestles 3x a year, and the Young Bucks are making a killing on the indies, but we can dream.

[tps_title]CM Punk vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin[/tps_title]

Mark my words: this match will never happen. But it would be so incredibly amazing if it did.

CM Punk and Stone Cold Steve Austin are the two greatest WWE anti-heroes of all time, while simultaneously being complete opposites of one another. Seriously, the rivalry practically writes itself: Punk is a straight-edge, well, punk, and Stone Cold is a beer-guzzling redneck. The promos alone they would cut on each other… We’re salivating just at the thought.

[tps_title]Seth Rollins vs. Kenny Omega[/tps_title]

If you read the article about five of the best wrestlers who don’t work for WWE, you know that we love Kenny Omega. And if Kenny Omega ever does sign with WWE, we hope beyond hope that he has a feud with Seth Rollins.

Rollins and Omega have similar styles and personalities – hell, Rollins even stole Omega’s finisher – and I can just see them trying to one-up each other the whole way. Besides, with so many ex-Bullet Club members in WWE, it’d be the perfect opportunity for a faction war between a revived Shield and Omega’s old pals.

[tps_title]Seth Rollins vs. AJ Styles[/tps_title]

Before you jump to the comments to correct us: yes, AJ Styles and Seth Rollins have already wrestled each other. However, they haven’t faced off one-on-one on television in WWE – and isn’t that what we all want?

These two have history, and that alone would generate a ton of emotion and potential for this feud. Add in the fact that they’re two of the best wrestlers in the world, and this match has “WrestleMania” written all over it.

We can all dream!

These are just a few dream matches; there are certainly many others that we would like to see.
