Daniel Bryan Backed Kofi Kingston’s Win At WrestleMania
Despite fans pushing and pushing for it, the WWE was still not ready – or planning – on making Kofi Kingston champion at WrestleMania.
At least not until Daniel Bryan stepped in.
Kingston, during an episode of After The Bell, described how Bryan went to the bosses and explained why it was the right call putting the title on Kingston.
“(Bryan) pushed for that to happen,” said Kingston. The plans weren’t for me to be at WrestleMania. I’m not sure who it was for Daniel to face, but Daniel went in and went to bat for me and the situation and the title match for us to happen. He had a big part in it too. It’s a testament to his state of mind as far as advancing the business and doing the right thing for the people and best product.”
Kingston claimed the WWE championship at WrestleMania 35 to become the first-ever African-born champion. He is also a triple crown and grand slam champion in WWE. His title run ended after 180 days at the hands of Brock Lesnar in October.

“I give a lot of credit to Daniel,” he said. “It meant so much more because Bryan was hot and just so good in the ring, on the mic and with his character. He was so giving with the build to the story that it meant more.”
