Unfortunately, while top WWE talents are on the Road to WrestleMania 40, CM Punk is on the road to recovery from an injury. Still, it sounds like the company has somewhat of a plan B, and the star could work commentary.
WWE’s Commentary Plans For CM Punk
Punk recently announced he won’t be participating in WrestleMania 40 due to a triceps injury. According to reports, he recently underwent successful surgery and has plans to return.
Still, the WWE wants to capitalize on his star power and might find another way to have him appear on programming. Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select reports that the former WWE Champion recently attended the Birmingham SmackDown, having had surgery the day before.
He also has already made a number of appearances at WWE’s Performance Center in Florida, too. Ace Steel, a close friend of Punk’s may have let the cat out of the bag regarding WWE’s plan for the talent while he’s injured.
He was on Wrestling Perspective podcast this week and hinted at a commentary role. Steel notes they (WWE) “definitely” want him on commentary. However, he also adds that he doesn’t know if the company will go that route since he did have a confrontation with Drew McIntyre after he announced his injury.
It would be awkward if they placed Punk on RAW’s commentary. After all, the focus would be on him wanting to go after Drew, and not being able to because of his injury.
CM Punk’s WrestleMania 40 Plans Cancelled
According to reports, Punk was slated to face Seth Rollins at WM 40. Unfortunately, this tricep injury canceled that, which has been devastating for both Punk and some fans, alike.
Most everyone knows Punk’s holy grail in the WWE was main eventing WrestleMania. Looks like those dreams have been put on hold for now.
The injury occurred during the 2024 Royal Rumble event. Sadly, he’ll be out of action for about three to four months.
