After everything that transpired last year, CM Punk addresses really ugly issues with The Elite and almost not appearing at Double Or Nothing.
CM Punk Addresses Really Ugly Issues With The Elite
Tomorrow, CM Punk will return to AEW for the first time since being suspend following the brawl after All Out. Heading into the show, an interview with ESPN was published.
In the interview, Punk goes over several topics such as apologizing to Tony Khan and his issues with The Elite.
Punk noted how the problems started in late May of last year. Seemingly, “Hangman” Adam Page called Punk out for publicly supporting workers’ rights and then not dong much privately.
He continued how his Double or Nothing match with Page almost did not happen due to injury. Despite winning the AEW World Championship, he was not happy with the performance and now CM Punk addresses really ugly issues that happened backstage.
“I proceed to have what I think is a garbage match because I’m trying to protect myself on stuff instead of actually just working and trying to put on the best performance I can,” said Punk. “I’m keeping an eye out.”
“He chopped me in the mouth one time, and I’m just like, ‘Okay, did you do that on purpose?’ You chip my tooth, and I’m like, ‘All right, should I give him a receipt?’ It changes the dynamic.”
“It poisoned everything for me and it made it all really, really ugly, and that was what set all of this off. And, here we are over a year later, and ain’t s— been done about it.”
As a result of being hurt, Punk was unable to work the fist Forbidden Door pay per view. Upon retuning, he was quickly defeated by Jon Moxley to determine an undisputed champion.
In the rematch 11 days later at All Out, Punk would regain the title. Due to the backstage brawl, Punk was stripped of his belt days later.
Since then, everyone from that incident has returned to AEW. Punk was injured during his match and would have been out for an extended period of time.
So, now that CM Punk addresses really ugly issues that occurred backstage, can he get back on the same page with everyone at AEW?
