As we’ve said before, the cameras are always rolling on wrestlers. Chris Jericho learned this the hard way when cameras caught the Ayatollah of Rock-n-Rolla engaged in a tense shouting match outside of a venue. The men claimed to be “fans” of Jericho and were supposedly asking for autographs.
Warning: Harsh language and threats of violence are exchanged.
Jericho released this statement explaining and apologizing for his behavior.
“I was not in a good state of mind at that time and instead of ignoring a pushy (aka rude) fan which is what I would usually do, I snapped. My apologies to all involved and God bless David Z.”
Will Chris Jericho be suspended for this?
No. This type of behavior is, unfortunately, all too common. 80% of the time, it is not the wrestler’s fault. Some fans think that because wrestlers are celebrities, they aren’t allowed to be left alone in public. We disagree with this. Celebrities, despite their fame, are people just like us. Don’t be a jerk.
Tips for getting an autograph or a picture with a wrestler if you see them in public
- Make sure you REALLY REALLY want a picture/autograph.
- At an airport. Don’t. They’re probably in a hurry.
- If they’re eating a meal don’t interrupt them mid-bite. Make eye-contact and give a knowing nod. If they nod back, politely walk over and ask for a picture. If you want an autograph HAVE A PEN.
- Looks like they’re with their kids or family? Don’t. These people are on the road 300+ days a year. Let them have time with their family.
- If it is before or after a wrestling event. Sure. But understand they may also be in a hurry.
- Be quick and be gracious. Don’t take up a lot of their time. Thank them for their entertainment and giving their bodies up for your enjoyment.
- Tweet at them thanking them for their picture and autograph. They’ll probably respond to you!
