The chase to secure the services of Bo Bassett continues, as the super wrestling prospect has narrowed down his list of suitors once more. Bassett recently took in a visit to Oklahoma State University.
What makes the Cowboys unique is that they have a brand-new head coach. Former NCAA national champion David Taylor, who learned under Cael Sanderson had Penn State, was hired during the offseason to lead the program.
Over Thanksgiving, Bassett toured Stillwater and the Oklahoma State campus. He revealed his thoughts on his official blog recently.
“These visits are intense and all day long,” Bassett wrote. “Every second we are on the move. We started off by checking out the wrestling facility, locker room and Gallagher-Iba Arena. They were setting up the arena for the dual meet and the stage was being built. The new coaches told us they are going all in on the home duals and making the atmosphere top level. I love wrestling in those types of atmospheres.”
Bo Bassett Impressed By David Taylor, Resume
Taylor has quite the resume to impress Bassett. He won gold at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo and is a former world champion gold medalist. At Penn State, Taylor won two golds and two silvers, and was a four-time Big Ten champion.
“Coach Taylor’s vision for the program was exciting and he is definitely not there just to place or be top four,” Bassett said. “His staff is very hungry, excited and going all in. I love love the direction of where their RTC is going. It was amazing to learn about all the new additions and future plans for the program.”
As he has been doing, Bassett checked a team off his list of potential landing spots. The University of Northern Iowa was cut, narrowing the list down to 11 programs.
Bassett still is considering Virginia Tech, Cornell, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Rutgers, Iowa State, Iowa, Oklahoma State, Arizona and Pitt-Johnstown. He has made five official visits to Iowa, Penn State, Ohio State, Virginia Tech and now Oklahoma State. One visit in late January to Rutgers remains.
