A blockbuster CM Punk match has been discussed for Forbidden Door, which would see the AEW wrestler take on a dream opponent from NJPW for the first ever.

Blockbuster CM Punk Match Rumored For Forbidden Door 2

After everything that transpired with CM Punk after All Out last September, he is officially returning to AEW. The rumors had been swirling for months and Tony Khan confirmed Punk will be part of the first Collision show on June 17.

And, we recently learned he will be wrestling. Khan announced Punk & FTR against Jay White, Juice Robinson & Samoa Joe. Before the match ends, we could see a new Bullet Club Gold member join the group.

Besides the debut of Collision, AEW is preparing for Forbidden Door 2. That takes place June 25 as AEW and New Japan Pro Wrestling once again will work together for the crossover pay per view event.

IWGP United States Heavyweight Champion Kenny Omega vs. Will Ospreay and Bryan Danielson vs. Kazuchika Okada have already been confirmed. Those matches alone are worth whatever the show cost.

Now, Fightful Select is reporting how there are talks for Punk to be involved in another high profile bout. The current idea is he will take on KENTA.

Despite having the same finisher, the two have never crossed paths. But, they have traded plenty of jabs on social media over the years.

KENTA was open to match, but he wanted a big payday for it. The same can probably be said for Punk and, as of now, it seems like that is the plan.

Of course, anything can happen before the card. Although, with the show so close, both promotions probably want to get a deal made quickly so there is enough time to promote the blockbuster CM Punk match.

KENTA, who had an awful run in NXT, worked once for AEW. Back in February 2021, KENTA & Kenny Omega defeated Jon Moxley & Lance Archer.

Punk has not been seen since his suspension following the All Out brawl. While away, he did undergo surgery.
