WWE fans were sad to see him exit the company, but William Regal crushed a fan theory about his AEW run and why he was there.

Anyone who was a fan of WWE-specifically, NXT-knew how much Regal meant to the company and to Triple H. And anyone following along knew that Regal was a casualty of cuts, perhaps motivated by the Vince McMahon power trip. The seasoned veteran, Regal didn’t stay out of work too long. He ended up in AEW and did quite fine for himself in an on-air role. But, before his contract was set to run it’s course, he actually managed to ask for and get his release. It remains one of the few (if not the only?) release Tony Khan has granted. Of course, Khan did grant it with a condition: Regal could not appear on WWE programming for a year. And he granted it because Regal wanted to be around his son to help him on his pro wrestling journey.
Time to reflect
With NXT heading to the CW, William Regal reflected about how amazing NXT has been for him and for wrestling. The former NXT GM posted his feelings on X, and one fan decided to poke the bear. He thanked Regal for the NXT work, but also for snaking out the competition. Maybe he meant the spying allegation as a tongue in cheek joke, but Regal didn’t see it that way. And that is when William Regal crushed a fan theory about his AEW run.

Specifically, the British icon challenged the posted to go do some real research. He was in AEW at the request of Bryan Danielson. And, he was always there to offer help to anyone who wanted help in the ring. He made it clear that he did not go there with an agenda, nor did he push his way into any production meetings. He was there purely to give back to the talent, anyone who was interested.
