Rey Fenix Reportedly Will Be Punished And Sidelined For Months Due To Rumored Interest In Move To WWE

A new report confirms recent rumors and AEW star Rey Fenix is indeed being punished for interest in a move to WWE.

The Lucha Bros. are some of the earliest members of the AEW roster. While both were names familiar to diehard wrestling fans before joining the company, they have elevated their status by showcasing their impressive high-flying skills on a national stage in the United States.

A legitimate case could be made that they are the greatest team in AEW history. They are multi-tag champions and have increased their value substantially over the last few years. Unsurprisingly, Rey Fenix and his brother Penta El Zero Miedo got the attention of WWE.

During the summer, reports emerged that both men’s contracts would expire in the fall. And that they were a lock to bring their talents to WWE television before the end of the year. However, in a move straight out of WWE’s playbook, the company added injury time to the contracts of Fenix and Miedo.

Rey Fenix reportedly will be put on ice for months as punishment by AEW

Fortunately for Miedo, he only had a few months tacked on to his deal. It has likely since expired, and there is a good chance he is already under contract with WWE. However, Fenix has incurred some major injuries during his tenure. Rumors claimed the injury time added to his deal would keep him in the company well into 2025.

Well, on Friday, Fightful confirmed that Rey Fenix’s contract has been extended far into the new year. He and his brother were set to be done with the company in the fall, but when the rumors emerged they would go to the competition, the pair were punished by having time tacked on to their deals.

Wrestling Observer then added to the narrative that Fenix is being punished today. The outlet reported the company has no intention of letting him out of his deal despite no interest in re-signing. And despite having him under contract, they also have no plans to use him over the duration of his deal.
