AEW Original And Multi-Time Champion’s Career May Shockingly Be Over Due To Effects From Pnuemonia

One of AEW’s longest-tenured performers, and a multi-time champion, could see his career come to a shocking end due to pneumonia.

In a short amount of time, AEW was able to rise to become the No. 2 wrestling promotion in the world, and they have maintained that spot since 2019. The company has kicked in the “Forbidden Door.” Put on major shows internationally. And recently signed one of the biggest TV deals any wrestling company, other than WWE, ever has.

There are only a select few that have been there from the beginning and are still with the company today. One of those talents is the man known as both Luchasaurus and Killswitch. The veteran wrestler is a favorite among diehard AEW fans and has achieved a lot during his tenure. Including winning the TNT Championship and the tag titles.

However, fans have not seen him on TV since August. It was reported in the summer that he had a health scare due to a bout with pneumonia. But he was expected to recover and return to action eventually. Unfortunately, according to Wrestling Observer reporter Bryan Alvarez, his career is in danger of ending.

“Apparently, there were complications. He ended up getting this flu and bad oxygen uptake as a result of whatever else turned into pneumonia. And apparently, he’s at high risk for a relapse, is what I was told,” Alvarez revealed. “The big concern is that after all of this, they’ve been running test after test, and there may be permanent damage.

“They found calcification in a heart valve and his body is not producing iron so he’s got a whole bunch of tests that he has to take. It’s bad. It’s bad enough that he’s out of the hospital but he still has to do oxygen.”

It’s terrible news since Luchasaurus, real name Austin Matelson, is only 39 years old and is right in the middle of his “wrestling prime.”
