The July 17 Edison AEW Dynamite was huge. It saw MJF defeat Will Ospreay in just under an hour to win the International Championship; which was later changed to the American Championship. Honestly, it might be the best match in AEW history. Although, all of that seems to be forgotten.
We are learning how earlier in the day, things were out of control in the back. Fightful notes how it seems to have stemmed from Baker having words about MJF and sharing them in the women’s locker room. MJF’s girlfriend, Alicia Atout, relayed the comments to the AEW Champion. The results saw several heated backstage confrontations. Apparently, Ospreay tried to her defuse the situation, but to no avail.
Britt Baker And MJF Are Not The First To Cause Backstage Trouble In AEW
AEW’s Human Resource department investigated the matter and Baker was suspended for two weeks. It seems like nobody else was in trouble. Or, if they were, the punishment was not as severe. Remember, AEW is known to have issues behind the scenes. Almost a year ago exactly, CM Punk got into a heated exchange with Jack Perry. It saw Punk and several others suspended, with Punk ultimately being fired later in the week. Although, Punk already told Tony Khan he was quitting.
Baker just returned to TV after about 10 months away. She revealed seizures caused her to not be medically cleared. With Baker back, will face Mercedes Mone at All In on August 25. If she is unhappy with how AEW handled the ordeal, WWE might be waiting with an offer. As for MJF, he will wrestle Ospreay once again; this time from Wembley Stadium. So, should AEW take further steps after the confrontation between Britt Baker and MJF?
