Young Bucks Reveal Private Party Was Actually ‘Fourth Choice’ To Beat Them For AEW Tag Team Titles

AEW vice presidents the Young Bucks revealed recently that losing the tag titles to Private Party was far from the company’s first choice.

The Young Bucks will go down in AEW history as the company’s greatest tag team. They were already one of the industry’s best teams before the promotion was created in 2019. However, during their time helping to run the organization, the brothers have been part of some of AEW’s greatest tag matches.

They have had some memorable championship reigns and their title losses have been important to help add further relevancy to the teams that defeated them. Their October loss to Private Party was a perfect example as their loss was massive for the continued development of another team.

However, it seems that Private Party was not the first choice to end the Bucks’ latest title reign. They weren’t even the second or third according to the AEW VPs.

Young Bucks detail creative ‘pivot’ to losing belts to Private Party

“This last run we just had, we were supposed to drop those titles months and months before we actually dropped them, but creative changed 4-5 different times in the last like six months,” the Bucks revealed on the “Tunnel Talk” podcast. “At one point, we were going to lose the belts to a certain team. And then a month later it changed to another team. Then, I remember Private Party came up to us actually and they mentioned wanting to do a long-term program with us.

“And we were like, ‘Well, sorry man, Tony [Khan] just gave us the layout of what we’re doing and that’s not in the cards.’ And something changed and we ended up wrestling them in a match [at WrestleDream]. But we tore the house down. As soon as we got backstage, we knew, ‘Oh alright.’ It’s in Tony’s eyes. He was like, ‘I think we have something, I think we have something.’ We were like, ‘We’ve got to pivot. We’ve got to change our plans again.’ And that was like the fourth time changing plans for those titles to be dropped.”

While it wasn’t the original plan, the flexibility and unexpected circumstances were a huge benefit for Private Party. A team that AEW fans have been clamoring to see get a title run throughout 2024.
