At yesterday’s Starrcast event, ahead of AEW: All In Texas, former AEW champ Bryan Danielson revealed that WWE recently asked him to stop using his Yes! chant.
Before he was a linchpin of AEW, Bryan Danielson became a legend in WWE. Despite not fitting the typical mold of a WWE star, the undersized wrestler proved he had far more charisma and “it” factor than men like Vince McMahon ever realized. A key element of his connection with fans was his legendary Yes! chant.
Similar to Jey Uso’s current Yeet wave, the Yes! chant was a great form of fan interaction. Where those in the arena could get involved in the show and support one of their favorite stars. They lasted in WWE for some time after he left four years ago. To differentiate himself from that part of his career, Danielson chose not to use it in AEW.
However, over the last year, he started to use it more. Especially during his memorable run to become the promotion’s top champion. Well, it seems the use of the popular chance bothered some in his former company.
On Friday, during his appearance at Starrcast, Danielson claimed that WWE actually reached out to him recently. And requested that he stop using the Yes! chant.
The former WWE and AEW champion has not wrestled in nine months as he looks to avoid surgery and heal a neck injury. If the company asked him to stop during his recent peak, it would still be petty, but more understandable on a business level. Since they have a copyright for “Yes! Yes! Yes!” However, to request it with no clear timeline for a return does seem rather silly.
In recent weeks, Bryan Danielson has appeared more often and AEW events. And rumors last month suggested some in the company do believe he will be able to return to the ring eventually.
