AEW boss Tony Khan revealed after AEW: All In Texas that Adam Cole’s decision to pull out of the event and vacate the TNT Championship all happened just hours before.

On Saturday night, AEW delivered a massive card from the home of MLB’s Texas Rangers. All In Texas featured many feel-good moments. Including Adam Page ending Jon Moxley’s reign as AEW Champion, and company stalwart Dustin Rhodes becoming the new TNT Champion.

That second moment was a last-minute decision due to an unfortunate event. To open the card, the current TNT champ, Adam Cole, revealed that not only would he not be competing at the event, but he was vacating the title because of a health concern that could force him to retire.

There is still little known about what the specific issues the former NXT Champion has. However, at the AEW: All In Texas post-event press conference, CEO Tony Khan revealed how the situation had devolved quickly over the last couple of days.

“Somewhere between late last night and early this morning, we talked, and he just wasn’t feeling well,” Khan said [h/t Fightful]. “That is the unpredictable nature of some of these injuries. And it’s really important that Adam Cole takes the time to get right. Because he’s a great figure in AEW. We talked last night, and both of us immediately reached a conclusion that it makes a lot of sense when he was not feeling right to go out for this.

“He’s one of the greatest pro wrestlers in the world, we both know it’s not good. He doesn’t feel very well if he’s not able to wrestle a championship match on the biggest show that AEW has ever done in North America.” he added. “Adam Cole is a big part of AEW. And hopefully he’ll be here forever. I just don’t know when the next time he’ll be wrestling is. He’s definitely still part of the team and the family.”

There has been some speculation online that the issues could be neurological, based on concussions. Which would make some sense. He might have hoped certain symptoms would improve, and they didn’t. Cole has dealt with concussion issues in the past.
