Mercedes Mone Takes AEW Delusion To New Levels With Another Head Scratching Comment About Women’s Division

Mercedes Mone is thoroughly enjoying her time for various reasons. And she is more than willing to spread the idea that the company has the best women’s division in the world, even if it makes her look delusional.

This has been a big last year for AEW when it comes to notable free-agent signings for AEW. Not only did they add NJPW legend Kazuchika Okada, but they also signed one of his best rivals, and another IWGP champion, Will Ospreay.

However, those are moves that appeal more to diehard wrestling fans. The signing that made headlines and drew the attention of casual fans was the addition of the woman formerly known as Sasha Banks, Mercedes Mone.

The multi-time WWE women’s champion left the company a few years ago due to unhappiness with how she was utilized. But she has been very happy with her time in the No. 2 company in the world so far. And it is unsurprising since they quickly made her their women’s champion, she rarely loses, and allegedly has a great deal of creative control over her character.

With AEW giving Mone everything she wants, she has turned into one of the company’s biggest hype women. Often making bold statements about how good the women’s division there is. Reality paints a very different picture and there is little doubt WWE has the best women’s division on the planet. A case can even be made that NXT has a better female roster after the additions of Giulia, Stephanie Vaquer, and Zaria.

Yet that hasn’t stopped Mercedes Mone from making another wild proclamation in a new interview with Uproxx.

“(I knew) where I wanted to be and what I want to leave in professional wrestling. To take this women’s division to whole new heights all over the world,” Moné told the outlet. “I wanted to have more for women’s wrestling, so I knew going to AEW was the place to be to make that happen.

“I feel like the women’s division has really changed the game. The women’s division has been the best it’s ever been. The women’s storylines are headlining AEW pay-per-views. So it’s just been amazing to come this far and I’m really excited for more.”

At no point has a women’s match been the headliner of an AEW pay-per-view or come close. And that is unlikely to change at this month’s Full Gear event on Nov. 23. However, in Mone’s book, the company is doing everything right and is the greatest thing since sliced bread. Poor ratings and ticket sales be damned.
