AEW Rumor Suggests Malakai Black’s Exit Imminent: Is A WWE Return An Eventuality?

We know he had wanted out before, but is Malakai Black finally free from AEW in 2025?

In WWE, Aleister Black was a great Superstar-in NXT, when used properly. But following his promotion to the main roster, things just didn’t click. We can say that Vince McMahon didn’t know how to use him, or didn’t want to use him correctly.

Regardless of the reason, Aleister Black eventually found his way out of WWE. And of course, he landed in AEW, rebranded as Malaki Black. But the funny thing about it? Things didn’t always go so well for him there either.

At times, we barely saw him on AEW television. Then there were reports that he was asking for his release from AEW. Like, to the point fans believed he was basically given an on-screen farewell.

Malakai Black is reportedly set to his free agency very soon

Except, this was when Triple H was starting to really gain control, and there was no way Tony Khan was going to do that. It was around this time, if memory serves, that Khan famously indicated he wasn’t going to release talent for any reason.

So, now it seems like there’s a chance Malakai Black could be free from AEW. Per a new report from Fightful, it is believed that Black was under contract until 2025 and that many within AEW are under the impression that he is finished on TV. Or, if not finished, he is nearly done.

The twist? There were indications (from Tony Khan) that Black’s deal had options for it to be extended up until 2027. So, he may be getting free, or he may still just wish he was. Or he could be heading back to work with his wife.

Sources do seem to be more of the belief that Black’s contract has expired, or is doing so imminently. If his deal is indeed over, WWE fans (like this one) will naturally wonder one thing. Might we see Aleister Black show up in Indianapolis for the Royal Rumble?
