A multi-time WWE Hall of Famer believes the version of Mercedes Mone AEW fans are getting is but a shadow of the performer she was in WWE as Sasha Banks.
When AEW signed Mercedes Mone early last year, it was seen as a major coup for the company. The woman formerly known as Sasha Banks had a decorated career in the industry. Including runs as the NXT and WWE Women’s champion and being one of the few women to headline WrestleMania.
The living legend was set to be the anchor of an AEW women’s division that has long been a weakness of the roster. Over her first year with the company, she has been pushed as an unbeatable force that rarely loses and is stacking up titles across the world. However, her lack of defeats to talents that could use it and her sometimes cringy promos have turned off some fans.
Kevin Nash claims Mercedes Mone is ‘phoning it in’ as a wrestler in AEW
Yet, her wrestling was something she could always lean on. And it deserved respect even from her detractors. However, in a new edition of his “Kliq This” podcast, WWE and WCW legend Kevin Nash suggested she isn’t even the wrestler she used to be in her old home.
“They had Sasha Banks like three all-time [on BET’s list of best black wrestlers ever]. I don’t think Bobo Brazil made the list. Sasha, whatever her name is now, CEO, she was the third [actually fifth], so I watched her match,” Nash said. “Man she’s f***ing; she’s phoning her s*** in big time. That’s not the same girl I watched tear down the house in Brooklyn with Bayley [in NXT].”
Those are strong comments from the WWE Hall of Famer and former WWE and WCW champion. The comments are unlikely to register with Mone. Or affect how AEW CEO Tony Khan books her in the months ahead.
