Following the events of AEW WrestleDream this weekend, Bryan Danielson is officially a free agent. But is a return to WWE the next move for the former All Elite Wrestling world champ?

In his final months as a full-time wrestler, Bryan Danielson made a major impact on AEW. The former WWE superstar became a bigger part of AEW’s content during the summer. And it all culminated with his surprising title win at All In.

Most expected him to come up short in his title bout with Swerve Strickland. However, he triumphed and unexpectedly extended his full-time stint. But, it all came to an end over the weekend when he was defeated for his belt by former Blackpool Combat Club stablemate Jon Moxley at WrestleDream.

Danielson has been dealing with a variety of injuries, the worst of which is a neck issue that will require major surgery. Furthermore, he reportedly has also been working without a contract. So with his title run over, is his stint with the company now done?

Following Saturday’s event, Fightful reported that Bryan Danielson was indeed working without an official contract and that his obligations to AEW were all met. This means that he is now technically a free agent who could take offers from any company in the industry.

At this time, the assumption is that he will get surgery on his neck, heal up other various injuries, and enjoy some free time with his family. But could he jump back to WWE when he is ready to return to action on a part-time basis?

His former employer is likely to inquire about his services in the weeks ahead. However, based on various reports and things Bryan Danielson has said in recent months, he has no intention of heading back to WWE. He has a prominent role with the company backstage and that is likely to expand once he is ready to get back on the road.
